State Arts Council Announces Request For Artist Qualifications For Multiple State Buildings

IMPORTANT NOTE: Any artist, even those who have been a part of the New Hampshire Percent for Art Program in the past, must pre-qualify through this RFQ process to be considered for the four projects listed below. See full RFQ for details.

CONCORD , NH - The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts’ Percent for Art Program announces the launch of a Request for Artist Qualifications (RFQ). The RFQ is being issued to pre-qualify artists who then will be eligible to submit proposals for the direct purchase or site-specific commission of artwork for multiple state buildings. The RFQ is open to professional visual artists who live in New Hampshire or within 30 miles of its borders. Artists may submit applications as individuals or as a collaborating team.

The following State Buildings are included in this combined Request for Artist Qualifications:

Contact Julie Mento, Visual Arts Associate at (603) 271-0790, julie.mento@dcr.nh.gov to request hard copy via mail. The postmark / delivery deadline for entry is Wednesday, April 30, 2008. See official RFQ for details on how to enter.

These public art projects are made possible by the state’s Percent for Art legislation, which allocates one half of one percent of the cost of the construction or significant renovation of certain state buildings for artwork in those buildings.

New Hampshire ’s Percent for Art Program
The New Hampshire Percent for Art Program was enacted by the New Hampshire Legislature in 1979 to ensure that all forms of visual arts and crafts have an integral and important role in state construction projects. The program seeks a genuine integration of art in architecture by giving an opportunity to building designers, planners, artists, state employees, arts professionals and private citizens to collaborate in planning projects and selecting, purchasing or commissioning works of art by artists and craftspeople for state buildings.

About the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts
The State Arts Council, a Division within the Department of Cultural Resources, is a publicly funded agency. It began in 1965 with the passage of a law designed " to insure that the role of the arts in the life of our communities will continue to grow and play an ever more significant part in the education and welfare of our citizens." Funding comes from state appropriations and from the National Endowment for the Arts.
